hi Gregg... looking forward to your visit to Phoenix... i remember you talking about this about 2 years ago... at that time i extended an invitation to stay at my house while you are here... the invite still stands... & i do have an extra bedroom... i can show you the prototype of my model & also we can travel up north to Flagstaff (about a 2 hour trip) where you can railfan BNSF's trans-con. line.. see you soon.. vinny
ReplyDeleteChicago has alot to offer for railfanning. I will post a link below to help you out but there is just way to much to list. Metra is our commuter RR here and can take you almost anywhere rather cheap. I do recommend Rochelle if your able to make the trip that far west, also The Illinois railway museum in Union, IL. Here is a link to help you out, http://www.railfanguides.us/il/chicago/ Also to mention there are numerous large hobby shops in the area that I would recommend visiting. Des Plaines hobbies, Lombard hobbies. Good luck and enjoy the area!
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Riss! I forgot Rochelle is in Chicago, that's another spot I wan't to go to, so it looks like a few more days stay for me! Large train shops are not a good idea ...LOL Now , where should I stay that's not too expensive??

Hope we can meet up in the bay area if you decide to railfan around here, by the way Truckee and the feather river canyon are great places!
ReplyDeleteIf I get there I'd be happy to! Keep an eye out here to see where i'm heading!
DeleteThanks for the invite.
Cheers Gregg

ReplyDeleteThere is a good rail fanning site in Fort Worth, Texas. It is at the intersection of interstate 30 and 35W. I live 3 hrs away from there in Oklahoma. I live 45 miles from 4 different train stations. I have a UP line 30 miles away and a BNSF line 45 miles from me......
ReplyDeleteBon voyage Gregg! A great trip you have planned there. I think you'll be beside yourself the entire trip. Wishing you a safe and very enjoyable journey mate. We look forward to following you on your adventure. Paul & Audrey.
ReplyDeleteThanks Paul and Audrey! In San Fran now waiting to catch flight to Toronto.

ReplyDeleteHi Gregg. I live in Omaha, NE and North Platte is a 4 hour drive. I could pick you up at the Omaha Amtrak station and drive you there. I have a spare room at home to crash in overnight and drive out the next day, whichever. I could also pick you up in McCook and drive the hour to Bailey yard. Depending on the schedule of when you would be here, I may be able to drag James Wright with me as well.
ReplyDeleteJust have to know when you plan on being in the area. Let me know if we can meet up. DaBob

DeleteG'day everyone, I'm here!!! Sitting in San Fran waiting for my flight to Toronto, nice day in the Bay area and I'm watching the airport trains come and go from the terminal.
ReplyDeleteLooks like I'll be getting into Toronto about 4hrs early so I'll be ready for sightseeing tomorrow!
Cheers Gregg
Glad you made it this far. Looking forward to your continued progress. Enjoy and safe travels to you both.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Had a god time in Toronto and will be boarding the Canadian tonight.
DeleteCheers Gregg & Lord Stan.
Hi Gregg! Good to hear you’ve arrived safely! I wish I could be there to carry your camera gear, especially when you go to MONTANA! How is Lord Stan coping with the paparazzi and all the adoring female fans? Julie, myself and all 188 Teddybears wish you lots of fun and good times riding and chasing trains.
ReplyDeleteHI Stew , did you see the late news last night, showed US custom offices carting off Lord Stan with some star struck females hot on there tale . lol
DeleteGregg good to see you got there ok
Thanks Stew! I haven't seen his Lordship for a while now, he sent me a message saying the women in Toronto dress very well and are "rather attractive" so I guess he's doing OK??I think I need you to carry the gear, that camera and tripod get damn heavy after a while ( 5 mins) so I'd better get some spectacular footage or words will be said..LOL. Thanks to Julie and yourself for the best wishes.

LOL! That doesn't surprise me one bit Glynn! Not in the country 5 minutes and he's already making trouble. If he's not careful he'll end up on a 'no fly' list! Did you get my email this morning?
ReplyDeleteG'day all, last day in Toronto today, had a great night last night as guest operator on the Q&NE layout of Sheldon, a very busy switching session which ran overtime due to the "rookie" engineer going a bit slow!! Great layout with some great scenery and fantastic scratch built structures. A huge thank you to Sheldon and his lovely family for having me in their home and putting on a great BBQ as well! Rode the subway today and visited the "Roundhouse museum" in town, saw some GOtransit push-pull trains and a short visit to Mac' yard saw my first CN locos including 2 standard cab Dash8's and GP9's with slugs!! Boarding the Canadian in about 2hrs time to start my journey west to Jasper.
ReplyDeleteHooroo for now.
Cheers Gregg.
Good morning . no update lately, how is trip going so far. Safe travels. Hello to Lord Stan too.
DeleteHi Diva, in Jasper now, new blog on the way! Thanks and cheers!
DeleteGregg.
Hope the trip is going well and the weather stays good. I see you started in the middle of the country. You should have started in the east and caught the VIA from Halifax. We could have met up. You could have toured the forts that started the country. Look forward to seeing pics and blogs from your trip.
ReplyDeleteScott
Hi Scott, I started in Toronto but I will be back to do the train from Vancouver back east, but thats on the next adventure!! Thanks for the best wishes!
